Zamzam Water in Canada: Buying Guide, Prices & Authenticity Checks
Written by the ZamZam Shop Co team, Toronto, Ontario ·
Zamzam water is groundwater from the Zamzam well inside Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia — roughly 20 metres east of the Kaaba and about 30 metres deep.[3] It is bottled under Saudi state supervision and cannot be commercially exported in bulk, so in Canada it is sold in limited quantities of sealed retail bottles, usually $9–$15 CAD for 330ml and $45–$70 CAD for 5L.
What Zamzam water is
The Zamzam well sits within the Masjid al-Haram complex in Makkah and draws from the alluvium of the Ibrahim valley. Water is pumped from the well to the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Water Project facility in Kudai, where it is treated, laboratory-tested and bottled. That plant fills roughly 200,000 five-litre bottles a day at peak, with a bottling line rated at about 30,000 litres per hour.[2]
Distribution is deliberately controlled. Pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah receive one sealed 5L bottle each through official centres. There is no open commercial export channel, which is precisely why genuine Zamzam water is scarce and comparatively expensive outside Saudi Arabia — and why a listing offering unlimited volume at a low price is worth questioning.
Published mineral composition
A peer-reviewed 2021 study in Heliyon analysed both directly collected and bottled Zamzam water against WHO and US EPA drinking-water standards. Every measured parameter fell below both sets of limits except total dissolved solids, which stayed under the WHO maximum of 1,000 mg/L while exceeding the EPA’s non-enforceable 500 mg/L guideline. Arsenic and cadmium were undetectable in all samples.[1]
| Parameter | Measured value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Total dissolved solids (TDS) | 812–814 mg/L | Below the WHO guideline of 1,000 mg/L |
| Calcium | 93 mg/L | Higher than most bottled spring water |
| Magnesium | 42 mg/L | Contributes to the distinctive mineral taste |
| Sodium | 210 mg/L | Within WHO limits |
| Fluoride | 0.74 mg/L | Naturally occurring, not added |
| pH | ≈7.6 | Slightly alkaline |

What Zamzam water costs in Canada
Canadian retail pricing clusters in a narrow band because supply is constrained at the source. As of August 31, 2026, expect roughly $9–$15 CAD for a 330ml bottle and $45–$70 CAD for a 5L bottle before shipping. Our own current pricing:
| Size | Price (CAD) | Best for | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Zamzam Water — 5L | $49.99 | Household supply, Ramadan, sharing | In stock |
| Pure Zamzam Water — 330ml | $9.99 | Travel, gifting, daily sips | Out of stock |
How to verify Zamzam water is authentic
No consumer test distinguishes Zamzam water from ordinary mineral water at home. Verification is therefore about the container and the chain of custody, in this order:
- The factory seal must be intact. Official bottles are heat-sealed at the Kudai plant. A cap that has been opened, re-taped or hand-wrapped breaks the only physical guarantee that exists.
- Look for official bottling markings. Genuine retail bottles carry the Saudi National Water Company Zamzam project labelling, in Arabic and English, printed on the bottle rather than stuck on afterwards.
- Ask the seller to name their supply chain. A legitimate retailer can tell you how the stock reached Canada. A seller who will not answer that question is the risk.
- Be sceptical of unusually cheap or unlimited stock. Supply is capped at source. Deep discounts and bottomless inventory are the clearest warning signs of re-filled bottles.
- Buy in retail sizes. Zamzam sold from a drum, jug or unbranded jerrycan cannot be authenticated by anyone, including you.
5L or 330ml: which size to buy
Buy the 5L bottle if the water is for a household — Ramadan, sharing with family, or keeping a supply for special occasions. It is the format pilgrims themselves carry back and the lower cost per litre.
Buy 330ml bottles if the water is for travel or gifting — they fit a bag, survive being handed to guests, and are the practical choice for weddings, Eid gifts and new-baby visits where several small sealed bottles beat one large one.

Frequently asked questions about Zamzam water in Canada
Can you buy Zamzam water in Canada?
Yes. Zamzam water cannot be commercially exported from Saudi Arabia in bulk, but it is legally brought into Canada in sealed retail bottles and resold by specialist Islamic retailers. ZamZam Shop Co ships sealed 5L and 330ml bottles from Toronto to every Canadian province and territory.
How much does Zamzam water cost in Canada?
Sealed Zamzam water in Canada typically runs $9 to $15 CAD for a 330ml travel bottle and $45 to $70 CAD for a 5L bottle. At ZamZam Shop Co the 5L bottle is $49.99 CAD and the 330ml bottle is $9.99 CAD. Shipping is $12.99 CAD, and free on Ontario orders over $100 or on orders over $200 elsewhere in Canada.
How can I tell if Zamzam water is authentic?
Check four things: an intact factory seal that has never been opened, the official Saudi National Water Company bottling markings, a retailer who can name their supply chain, and a price consistent with the market. Zamzam water sold in a re-filled, unlabelled or hand-sealed container cannot be verified and should be avoided.
Where does Zamzam water come from?
From the Zamzam well inside Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia — about 20 metres east of the Kaaba and roughly 30 metres deep. Water is pumped to the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Water Project plant in Kudai, where it is treated, tested and bottled under Saudi state supervision.
What minerals are in Zamzam water?
A 2021 Heliyon study measured total dissolved solids at roughly 812–814 mg/L, calcium at 93 mg/L, magnesium at 42 mg/L, sodium at 210 mg/L and naturally occurring fluoride at 0.74 mg/L, with a pH near 7.6. Every parameter except TDS sat below both WHO and US EPA drinking-water limits, and TDS remained under the WHO maximum of 1,000 mg/L.
How much Zamzam water can a pilgrim bring back?
Pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah are permitted one sealed 5L bottle each, issued through the official distribution centres. That allowance is why retail supply in Canada is limited and why bulk quantities at unusually low prices deserve scrutiny.
How long does Zamzam water keep?
An unopened, factory-sealed bottle stored away from direct sunlight and heat keeps indefinitely for practical purposes. Once opened, treat it like any still water: refrigerate and use within a few weeks.
Does Zamzam water ship to all Canadian provinces?
Yes. ZamZam Shop Co ships to all ten provinces and three territories from Toronto, Ontario. Orders are packed in 1–3 business days and typically arrive in 5–15 business days depending on destination.
